3181 - Windsor

I recently spent the day traipsing up and down the streets of Windsor. It took me right back to my first real job, working at a law firm in St Kilda. Every morning and evening I would commute via Windsor Station and then catch the tram down St Kilda Road. It was nice to reminisce!

Windsor has a vibe quite similar to Prahran, but a little edgier. It is a young suburb, with a large percentage of residents being aged between 20 - 34. Did you know Windsor was originally known as Prahran South? Stonnington’s smallest suburb changed names to Windsor in 1891, named (not surprisingly) an English town. From Windsor you have your choice of trains or trams to take you just about anywhere in Melbourne. It’s a fantastic location. If you were looking to buy you’d have better luck looking for an apartment (28 for sale) rather than a house (currently 10 for sale). A one bedroom apartment will set you back about $450,000 and a three or four bedroom house will set you back $2.5M - $4M. If you’ve really been saving your pennies, check out this gorgeous property on Peel Street. You could be the proud owner of a repurposed Post Office!

I was excited to see that although it was much the same there were lots of new spots opened up. There is a new gorgeous little cafe Elfie right by the Station. I love their mural! I want to be Elfie when I grow up! It’s great location makes it the perfect spot to grab a delicious fresh muffin and a coffee on your commute.

I dropped into The Bayou during the day. It was a cute little spot, with some customers working away on laptops and others enjoying lunch, but I have a feeling it really comes alive at night! I might have to get out after dark sometime to find out. The Stump Jumper burger was delicious and next time I will definitely be trying the Crab Claw Burger.

Just off Chapel Street, you’ll find Scandi inspired cafe Oppen. It’s gorgeous peach hues will bring a relaxing moment to a hectic day. All day breakfast is on the menu, the Scandi board is delicious, or if you’re after lunch you can’t go past the Wagyu burger (with bacon of course) or the chicken salad open sandwich.

Have you been to Windsor? What do you love about it? Do you have a favourite spot? Let me know what you think :)
